Hello, and thank you for visiting the One Accord Community Church. We trust that you will enjoy your visit and we look forward to having you as our guest soon.
Our congregation is made up of families of all ages who share together in a unique blend of Christian Service. "Stoop down and reachout to those who are oppressed. Share their burdens, and so complete Christ's law. Right now, therefore, every time we get the chance, let us work for the benefit of all, starting with the people closest to us in the community of faith."
Galatians 6:2,10 (The Message)
One Accord Community Church is a very caring congregation that strongly believes in reaching out beyond themselves to spread and apply the Gospel of Jesus Christ. At our church, you will find a warm welcome and ample opportunity to grow in your relationship with Jesus and His Church.
We are very pleased to be able to pastor such a great group of Christian families, and we welcome you to join us.
Bishop Thomas A. Body & Pastor Darlene A. Body
Our Mission at One Accord Community Church is to bring people to Jesus and membership in His family. To develop them to Christ-like maturity and equip them for ministry in the church and their life's mission in the world in order to magnify His name.
For the revelation awaits an appointed time, it speaks to the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.
Habakkuk 2:3 (NIV)
We Envision Our Church as a ministry to the world; where people are taught the Word of God, receive the gift of salvation, live by faith, develop and become equipped for specific ministries to provide encouragement, healing, hope, restoration, and deliverance from sin.
We Envision Our Church as a body that ministers to the whole person naturally and spiritually; a place where true love is taught, understood, and demonstrated on a daily basis
We Envision Our Church as a place where healthy, life-long relationships are developed, marriages are strengthened, families are bonded, and singles fulfilled.
We Envision Our Church as a place where each individual takes an active part in every service.
We Envision Our Church as a place where Sunday Service, Intercessory Prayer, and Bible Study are specifically designed for personal and corporate growth and development.
We Envision Our Church as a multi-faceted organization that will promote entrepreneurship, education, and financial independance. In addition to the 5,000-seat sanctuary, the organization will house a primary and secondary education facility, a childcare center, senior day center, family counseling center, temporary housing facility, multi-media center, career training center, bookstore, clothing store, restaurant, real estate company, and much more.
We Envision Our Church as the Body of Christ that will bring people to Christ, promote and encourage spiritual growth, by developing them in Christ-like maturity; equipping them for their mission in the local church and their life's mission in the world, by utilizing the Word of God and the expertise of QUALIFIED elders, missionaries, evangelists, ministers, pastoral caregivers, teachers, and other church administrative personnel.
We Envision Our Church as a place for YOU as we move forward in the spirit of excellence in the twenty-first century accepting the challenge to succeed!!!
We Believe
that the bible is the inerrant, inspired, (in its original manuscripts), Word of God. And, it is the Christian's final authority in faith and conduct.
there is only one true, living sovereign, holy, and eternally existent God. He is infinitely perfect and He exists in three persons; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He is the creator and sustainer of all things, the source of all truth and worthy or worship, trust and obedience.
in Jesus Christ as the "Only begotten Son of God" by virgin birth. We believe that He was fully man and fully God, revealing God to man and is a redeemer of man to God by his vicarious death on the cross. He rose from the dead for our justification, and is exalted to the right hand of God and is the Baptizer in the Holy Spirit.
in the work of the Holy Spirit to glorify the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. We believe He convicts the world of sin and regenerates the believing sinner, baptizing him into the Church (which is the Body of Christ). We believe He indwells, and He guides, instructs, and empowers believers for Godly living and service. He is the giver and sustainer of the spiritual gifts which we use to strengthen the Church and evangelize the world.
salvation is God's free gift to man. It is neither merited nor secured by any human virtue, work, ceremony, or effort. We receive the gift of salvation, by grace through faith in the work of the Lord Jesus Christ on the cross. In salvation we have the divine guarantee that we shall never perish, and that our eternal life is secure in Christ.
God created man in His image. But man sinned, incurring spiritual death (separation from God) and physical death, (separation of spirit and soul from the body). Man, therefore, is subject to Satan's power and within himself, has NO means of recovery or salvation.
Bishop Thomas A. Body
Bishop Thomas Alvin Body, the third of four children, born to John and Rena Body, has been the blessed recipient of Holy Instruction at the feet of his mother, who was a faithful member of the Church of God in Christ until her demise. The difficult conditions of life forced upon African Americans prompted his parents to encourage young Thomas to pursue a sound academic foundation. Thier efforts were rewarded by his completion of high school at the young age of fifteen. further academic pursuits followed at Bishop College , East Dallas College, Dallas Christian College, and John F. Kennedy University where he received his Masters Degree in Psychology. He then graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Doctorate Degree in Psychology from Strassford University.
Wheatley Church of God in Christ became home for Bishop Body under the leadership of the late Elder Wilson Tolbert. He was licensed and ordained by the late Bishop F. L. Haynes, Prelate of Texas Northeast Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of the Church of God in Christ. Bishop Body has been involved with the C.O.G.I.C. in many different facets and on many different levels. He served faithfully at St. James C.O.G.I.C. under the leadership of the late Bishop Williams James. It was through his faithfulness to his pastor the Bishop James appointed him as the First Administrative Assistant of the International Youth Congress. As his conviction to reach lost souls became more widely known, he became appointed by the International Church of God in Christ's Board of Evangelism as it's National Coordinator. Dr. Body has appeared on several syndicated television and radio broadcast programs; with his focus constantly being on reaching the lost and exhorting the brethren to be confident in the Word of God. Dr. Body and his family were featured in the 25th Anniversary Edition of Dr. James Dobson's Focus on the Family magazine. Dr. Body has been editor-in-chief of several newspapers, a radio disc-jockey at KNOK 970 a.m.; the number one station in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. He is a trained psycologist, marital counselor, theologian and teacher extraordinaire. Dr. Body is known as the "preacher's preacher. He continues to electrify vast audiences with messages like; "God is Smart," "Potiphar's House," "Strange Way We've Come, but it was God Who Brought Us," and "I think It's Time for God to Write Again."
In 1983, at the request of the late Bishop John Dale Husband, the prelate of the Central Georgia Ecclesiatical Jurisdiction of the Church of God in Christ; Dr. Body came to pastor the One Accord Community Church of God in Christ in Atlanta, Georgia. The services were held in the Ida Prather YWCA; where it quickly grew from eigth members to one hundred-fifty in six months. When the membership outgrew the YWCA, the Lord opened a door at the Days Inn motel, where the church experienced continuous growth and had to relocate to its present edifice, where the member is currently over 700 persons.
Bishop Body now serves as the Senior Bishop of the Georgia General Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction, headquartered at his home church, One Accord C.O.G.I.C in Decatur, Ga., as he continues in his mandate to "Maintain the Integrity of the Gospel." Bishop Body is happily married to the formerly Darlene Annette Foster and they are the proud parents of seven-living children, twenty-four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Pastor Darlene A. Body
A third generation Pentecostal, Darlene Annette Foster was the fourth child born to Church of God in Christ Pastor and Superintendent Elder John D. Foster and Mother Dollie Foster, in Fort Worth, Texas. Her family later relocated to Minnesota where she attended North High School and went on to attend the College of St. Teresa and Southwest Minnesota College.
During her early years, Darlene began to sense the Lord's calling on her life, when she began in the ministry of her fathers church, Faith Temple C.O.G.I.C. She was the Choir director, a Sunday School teacher and led many teams in fundraising, which ultimately helped her mother and father payoff the mortgage of their church. She was then, as she is now, an avid chuch worker.
A young Darlene served as the Minneapolis District YPWW Chairlady for the Minnesota Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of the Church of God in Christ and she was a Choir Director for the Minnesota State Choir, she was a faithful member and supporter of her father's ministry and the state work until she married, the Elder T.A. Body and relocated to California. She is now the Pastor of the One Accord Community Church of God in Christ , located in Decatur, Georgia, and works diligently in the service of the Lord with her husband, Bishop T. A. Body, Sr.
Through the mentoring of her husband, in 1999, Pastor Darlene Body heeded the call, and told God she would "preach the Gospel," and she was ordained an Elder in the One Accord Church. Becoming the "First Woman Elder" in her family. She has received many accolades in the church and in the community for her civic contributions, including opening the One Accord Child Development Center and Summer Camp Programs, where she focused on the needs of under-privileged families and children with special needs. She has never turned anyone away.
In 1992, Pastor Body founded the Heart 2 Heart Women's Ministry; which is a ministry that focuses on the needs, goals and aspirations of women. Through this ministry and her love for women, Elder Body has contributed thousands of dollars toward the college education of many young women and men in the church. She hopes to create a new scholarship fund in the name of her friend and sister, the late Mother Sarah Watson Moses, to continue this effort. She holds an Annual Heart 2 Heart Fellowship for women, a "Fire Side Chat," and is the Overseer of the Young Women's Christian Council.
In addition to her many accomplishments as a First Lady and Pastor, Pastor Body is an anointed and accomplished vocalist. having sang with the original cast of the Sounds of Blackness; she has also been the psalmist for her husband at many national conventions and on television programs. Pastor Body was also the co-host of Bishop Body's Lifeline from the Master Radio Talkshow.
Pastor Body is a "hands on" leader, an intercessor and an extraordinary preacher; she fascinates audiences with such God Given Messages as "I'm not Drunk, I'm Desparate" (1 Samuel 1:1-18), and "Please Don't be Trippin', When it's Time for Dippin'!"(2 Kings 5)
Pastor Body is the mother of seven-living children, twenty-four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Her love and compassion for her family and others, is proof that she is... "an excellent woman" (Proverbs 31)
